Paul Doherty, former Scottish Boys Champion, talks to followgolf.scot about his golf and his ambition to use the Mena Tour as a stepping stone to the European Tour. Paul, brother of Challenge Tour player Jack, has one win on the Mena Tour in 2015, in the Royal Golf D’Anfa Open, Casablanca, Morocco.
1. How would you sum up your season so far?
My season so far has been up and down more than usual with some good rounds and some average rounds.
2. How have you found playing on the Mena Tour and what’s the background to you being there?
The Mena Tour is an impressive tour that creates great chances for individuals to go all over the world and play against some really talented players! I started playing a few years ago when some friends mentioned it to me.
My coach Cen Mills lives in Dubai as well, so playing on a tour all over the Middle East is ideal, we get to spend valuable time together right before each event.
4. Any goals for the rest of the year?
There are 3 events left in this 2016 season. I’m currently sitting about 20th in the Order of Merit. I have set myself a goal to win one of the final three and it would be amazing to win the tour championship!
5. Who has helped you this year?
I have a great support network around me, from my fiancé Laura Andrews to my parents, but all my friends and family are amazing. They message and watch as much as possible and they certainly make the bad days a lot easier, that’s for sure.
